Privacy policy

Effective 14 October 2026 · Applies to the GrabCanvas app and grabcanvas.com

The short version: your screenshots and recordings stay on your computer. GrabCanvas has no account system, no cloud and no analytics inside the app. The only personal data we hold is the email address you give us to receive a license key or to ask for support.

Who we are

GrabCanvas is made by C. Kerger, San Francisco, California, United States. For anything in this policy, email info@grabcanvas.com.

The app

What the app stores

Captures, recordings, annotations and preferences are saved in folders on your computer that you can see and change in Preferences. GrabCanvas does not upload them anywhere. If you choose a cloud folder (for example a Dropbox or Google Drive folder synced on your machine) as a destination, your cloud provider's privacy policy applies to what you put there.

Copy text from screen

Text recognition runs entirely on your computer. Images are not sent to any server.

Automatic blur

Detection of email addresses in a capture runs on your computer.

License check

When you enter a license key, the app verifies it locally. It does not need an internet connection to run.

Update check

Once a day, if you leave "Check for updates" on, the app asks grabcanvas.com for the latest version number. That request contains the app version and operating system, and nothing that identifies you. You can turn it off in Preferences.

Crash reports

If the app crashes it offers to email a crash log to us. Nothing is sent unless you choose to send it, and you can read the log before you do.

This website

Server logs

Our web server keeps standard access logs (IP address, requested page, browser type, time) for up to 30 days to diagnose problems and block abuse. We do not use advertising trackers or sell this data.

Analytics

If we add analytics to the site it will be a privacy-respecting service that does not use cookies or track you across sites, and this policy will be updated to name it.

Cookies

grabcanvas.com does not set cookies.

Email and license keys

When you claim a launch license, buy a license or write to us, we keep your email address and our correspondence so we can send your key, resend it if you lose it, process a refund and answer follow-ups. Launch license holders also receive one follow-up email asking how the app went. We do not send newsletters and we do not share, rent or sell email addresses.

Payments, once enabled, are handled by a payment processor; we receive your email address and the last four digits of the card for refund purposes, never the full card number. The processor's name and policy will be shown on the checkout page.

Your rights

You can ask us to show, correct or delete the data we hold about you at any time by emailing info@grabcanvas.com. Deleting your email means we can no longer resend a lost key, so keep a copy. Residents of the EU, UK and California have additional statutory rights, which we honor for everyone.

Children

GrabCanvas is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version appears here with a new effective date. Material changes are also noted in the changelog.
