Install instructions
WindowsRun GrabCanvas-1.0.0-Setup.exe and follow the steps. Prefer not to install? The portable grabcanvas.exe runs from any folder, including a USB stick, with no admin rights.
Neither file is code-signed, so the first time SmartScreen says Windows protected your PC
:
- 1Choose More info
- 2Choose Run anyway
macOSUnzip the download (Safari does this for you) and drag GrabCanvas to Applications.
Then macOS asks for Screen Recording permission. GrabCanvas opens the right pane in System Settings → Privacy & Security; toggle it on and relaunch.
The first time you open it, macOS says it can't verify the app:
- 1Close the message. Don't choose Move to Trash
- 2Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway
LinuxExtract the archive into its own folder and run it:
mkdir -p ~/grabcanvas && tar -xzf grabcanvas-linux-x86_64.tar.gz -C ~/grabcanvas && ~/grabcanvas/grabcanvas. It runs from that folder; nothing is installed system-wide.
On Wayland, the desktop asks for screen access the first time you capture:
- 1Pick the screen or window to share
- 2Confirm, usually with Share
After you install
1Allow screen capturemacOS and Wayland desktops ask once. Windows does not ask. GrabCanvas walks you through the setting if it is needed.
2Pick your capture shortcutKeep the defaults or choose your own keys in Preferences. See the default shortcuts.
3Take your first captureEvery feature works for the 7-day trial, including recording, copy text and guide export. Exports carry a watermark until you enter a license key.
